THE DEW OF HERMON (Friday 22nd
January, 2016)
1 Sam 30:8, 18-19
8 And David inquired at the LORD, saying, Shall
I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue:
for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
18 And David recovered all that the Amalekites
had carried away: and David rescued his two wives.
19 And there was nothing lacking to them,
neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any
thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all.
KJV
The scripture recorded in verse 4 that David
and all the mighty warriors that went with him wept sore and fainted when they
returned and saw the devastation done to them by the Amalekites. However, David
reasoned within him to ask God what to do and God told him to pursue the troop,
overtake and recover all. This reminds me of an event that took place many
years ago when one of my elder brothers was in College of Agriculture, Yandev,
near Gboko, Benue State, Nigeria. They just closed from the fellowship and were
returning when a very strong mad man came straight for one of the sisters
grabbed, threw her on the ground forcefully and about messing her up. Some of
the brethren were shouting “Jesus, Jesus” while others started ‘blasting’ in
tongues ‘po ko to ti ti ra ra bara bara’. My brother told them it was no time
to shout Jesus and speaking in tongues but action time. In a swift moment he
got hold of a big plank, hit the mad man on the back heavily and his madness
disappeared, he ran away to nurse his injuries and they rescued the sister
unhurt. Left for the tongue speaking brethren the mad man could have had his
field day but for the intervention of the big stick! If David had continued
weeping, he could weep forever for all the Amalekites cared, there would have
been no recoveries! Many a times you would not have suffered loss, many a times
your blessings would not have been hanging if only you know God has answered
already and all that is required was a little action of ‘pursue then overtake
and recovery’! Don’t take action without praying and don’t pray without taking
action! This year ask God what action(s) to take to compliment your prayers and
you shall recover all! So shall it be in Jesus name! SHALOM!
